• College Life & Sam

Hi all. Well here's my second post and I thought I would tell you about where I'm currently at. I'm currently studying on a 'access course' . This course lasts for a year and is pretty much design for adults who wish to go to University. As part of it I'm studying six subjects. Four at level 2 (GCSE) and two at level 3 (A level), this course only runs for a year, so its been pretty full on so far. The course is pretty good with the other students a real good laugh in the most. Most have something in common, and even though we were all strangers in the beginning, many have become good friends. There is the odd fellow student I would love to throttle, well that's actually being too nice, I would actually prefer to do something much worse! but in case I do I better not say, then at least I have a chance in court of getting off with it. Most students want to either become a nurse, teacher or social worker. There are many who are single parents who didn't have the chance to go into further education from school, there are some of us under achieved for various reasons, and some people who just want a career change. The tutors are all pretty good, ready to help whenever required, one is eccentric and can only be described as Paul Daniels secret brother, who's been hidden away due to being mentally unstable (all will become clear). Over the coming weeks while I wait to hear about my midwifery application, I plan to tell you about various characters on the course and what we all get unto. Hopefully anyone else interested in doing a access course will find something of interest to push them into enrolling.

Probably the best fellow student to begin with is Sam, the first person I spoke to on the course. Sam is hard to describe. Part of me wants to kill her, part of me likes her - a little. Unfortunately Sam drives me mad, she’s very clever but often fails to engage her brain before she speaks, and ends up what can only be described as ‘brain farting’ in front of the rest of the class. The other issue I have with Sam is sometimes is it a ‘brain fart’ or is she attention seeking. I think she may just feel unloved, but I’m not for giving her a cuddle but would rather push her off a cliff. She has this fault of attracting attention, either by her ‘brain farts’ or by her bizarre dress sense , where her inspiration seems to comes from the local red light district. Not that I know much of fashion being a bloke and feeling like I’m hitting middle age early. But only if she could engage her brain before speaking then the world would only be full of love for her.

  • And so it begins!

Hi all, and so it begins, kind off. I'm currently at college studying on a access course to university. Today my I finally completed my UCAS entry form and submitted it. And you've probably guessed by now I want to become a male midwife. Yes a male midwife. Yesterday I attended a uni open day, which I really enjoyed, and gave me the push I needed to get my entry form in. The bad news is their are only 15 places with around 30 candidates for each place, so fingers crossed , toes crossed and anything else I can cross. Now its a waiting game just to see if I get to the first stage of an interview.

So a little bit about me. Well I'm 28 with three young children. Previous jobs include being a submariner in the British Royal Navy for some years and more recently being in charge of a team of dreaded parking attendants. I've decided to write this blog to keep you up to date on my experiences on hopefully becoming a male midwife, the highs and lows, and hopefully a lot of laughs. The next blog I will let you know if I've heard anything, and how college is going.
